Gemini Can Now Fix Your Picture Settings on Google TV

Say what's wrong with the picture or the dialogue, and the assistant fixes it — rolling out first to four TCL models in the US.

Fiddling with TV picture menus might finally be over. Gemini on Google TV can now adjust picture and sound settings by voice, Google announced on June 11. Instead of digging through menus, you hold the mic button or say “Hey Google” and describe what you want. “You no longer have to dig through settings menus to optimize your viewing experience,” the company wrote in its announcement.

The assistant handles four kinds of requests. First, it changes common settings directly, so “Set picture mode to Sport” or “Increase the bass” just works. Second, it troubleshoots from plain descriptions. For example, say “The screen is too dark” or “I can’t hear the dialogue clearly,” and Gemini adjusts the relevant settings itself. Third, it tunes the TV for your content. Tell it “It’s movie night — help make this feel like a cinematic experience,” and it flips picture and sound to Movie mode. Finally, it can jump straight to any menu when you say something like “Open display settings.”

TCL TVs get it first

For now, the feature is exclusive to select Gemini-enabled TCL sets in the US. The enabling system update rolls out over the next few weeks to four models: the QM9K, X11L, QM8L, and RM9L. Owners can check for it under Settings > System > About > System update. Gemini for TV also requires Android TV OS 14 or later, a Google account, and an internet connection.

One caveat comes straight from Google: picture and sound modes vary across devices, so what Gemini can change depends on the TV. There is no timeline yet for other brands, although Gemini already runs on Google TV hardware from several manufacturers.

Gemini keeps spreading through the living room

Voice-fixing your TV settings is the latest step in a steady takeover. Gemini replaced Assistant on Google TV starting at CES, then picked up sports briefs and richer visual answers in March. Meanwhile, the assistant keeps landing across Google’s lineup, from Wear OS watches to Meet’s AI meeting notes. The couch was always next. Honestly, asking your TV to fix its own dialogue mix beats hunting for the audio menu every time.
